KM4JQU technician amateur radio license
I just received my technician class amateur radio license and am on the airwaves as KM4JQU! For the moment, my rig is a Baofeng BF-F8+ handheld 5W, and am building a base station softrocks ensemble transceiver for the 40,20,10m bands. Those bands require general class privileges, and I nearly made it through that exam as well, but not quite. I target in a month or two to gain general amateur status. In the mean time, I’m mostly scanning the N6NFI repeater and Stanford’s own N6BDE repeater, both in the south bay area, CA.
A few links that have helped me get up and running:
- general ham radio site with practice exams for licenses
- reddit group, quite active
- chart of amateur bands
- reference for bands by location
- US radio frequency allocation chart
- ARRL amateur frequency band plans
